Mellow Expeditions - @harrison_muckley

For this week’s Mellow Expeditions we spoke to @harrison_muckley who talked to us about his 9 day Hammocking trip around Scotland and the Lake District. @harrison_muckley brings us along with him by describing his best days…
For my birthday this year I wanted to do things a bit differently and decided a 9 day hammock camping trip encompassing Scotland & The Lake District alongside the usual suspects over at @traildusters.oc (the boys) was on the agenda.
The first half of our trip was all about getting up to Torridon, exploring the surrounding areas and making the most of 4 days of snow forecast. After a quick supply run in Fort William and a link up with local legend Alex we were off North.
Yellow snow warnings, car trouble and short days aside we managed to get stuff done. A personal highlight of mine was Stac Pollaidh, which on a normal day wouldn't be too difficult but knee high snow made it interesting on the way up and down.
As our time in Scotland drew to an end we began our drive south where we parted ways with a couple of the boys and carried on to the Lakes. Leaving Scotland didn't mean leaving the snow behind though and it soon became interesting with rivers bursting their banks and roads completely underwater...luckily Cam's camper is more than capable and made light work of anything thrown at us.
Treating ourselves to a well earned spa day, exploring snowy quarries and getting down to Kendal Mountain Festival were some of what we got in during our few days in the Lake District.
There's a lot more that went on during this trip but the snow was a constant throughout and became the highlight as a whole for me, seeing areas I'd previously been to completely transformed and putting new gear to the test gave me a newfound appreciation and confidence to get out more and explore during the winter months.
